“Half The Sky” Turning Oppression Into Opportunity For Women Worldwide

The stories in “Half The Sky” deal with different challenges and issues that young women around the world face. They describe the lives of Dalit women who attacked and emasculated a serial killer. There is also the story of Mukhtar Mai, a victim of a Pakistani gang rape who exposed her rapists, survived abduction, and even started a school. The book deals with all sorts of issues such as sex trafficking, assault, gender-based violence, maternal mortality, and even drug use. Kristof and WuDunn also tell the story of a girl who was forced into prostitution and beaten by her own family. This book focuses on the struggles of women and how having faith in humanity can change things. They want to spring hope and initiate change to form a movement to emancipate women all over the world.
