Catchafire.org: Use your own skills to make a change in the world.

At the last NY Tech Meetup held at the NYU Skirball Center on February 5th, companies like HowAboutWe and OK Cupid Labs showed us the benefits of using technology to find your perfect match in the love field. But what about using an a match makers for social good? It might sound crazy but it’s real and they also demoed at the last NY Tech Meetup. By creating a profile with your professional experience, areas of expertise and causes you care most deeply about, Catchafire is able to generate matches with different nonprofit organizations offering different choices for volunteers to have an opportunity to use their knowledge and expertise for social good.
Catchafire‘s mission is “to provide talented individuals with meaningful pro bono experiences in order to build capacity for social good organizations“. But How does it works?

During their demo at the last NY Tech Meetup, Chris Maguire, Product Lead for Catchafire, explained his own experience with the app. By using his design skills and love for animals, Chris was matched up with GetYourFix.org, a nonprofit organization that introduces pet “Owners” in need to “Sponsors” who want to help by funding a spay/neuter surgery. A free service sponsored by the FiXiT Foundation in order to connect people to help animals. And which website was actually designed by Chris for free.
Named one of the 9 Digital Ways to Become a Social Good Hero in 2012 by Mashable, Catchafire allows you to help make a change in the world while you build your professional experience, a win-win situation.
