How To Embed Video in a Post

1) When you first go to “ADD POST” in WordPress you will typically be starting in VISUAL MODE, which is an editing mode where What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). You can confirm that you are in this mode by looking in the upper right corner of the post window and making sure that the tab called “Visual” is selected.

2) While in this VISUAL MODE, when you come to place you would like to embed a video simply type “VIDEO CODE” (typically as it’s own paragraph). If you plan to embed more than one video you could also type “VIDEO CODE FOR [NAME OF VIDEO]”

3) Now you want to go get the embeddable html code from whatever video site your video was on. If you haven’t already, open the video you wanted in a new browser tab or window. Now you’ll need to find a link that is usually below the video named either “EMBED” or “SHARE” – If it’s “SHARE” then usually clicking it will bring up another link called “EMBED” – go ahead and click that. Now you’ll normally see a place where HTML code has appeared for you to copy. You’ll also usually find a place where you can customize the size of the embedded clip on your site, by choosing it’s size, or more specifically it’s width and height in pixels (the unit used to measure length in websites). In the case of Viral Media Lab, the best option is to select a width of 560 px or less. If there is a field marked “WIDTH” that you can enter a number in, type 560 there and the height will be automatically calculated for you. After you’ve done that, select all of the code they give you and COPY it.

4) Now go back to WordPress and switch from VISUAL MODE to HTML MODE. Go to the upper right corner of the WordPress post window and this select the HTML tab

5) Find the “VIDEO CODE” placeholder you created and select it with your cursor.

6) With the “VIDEO CODE” text selected, use the PASTE command to paste the embed code for the video.

7) Now go back to VISUAL MODE, and you’ll see a big yellow box now appears where your video is. You’ve just embedded a video into your post!
