I have always thought The High Line was beautiful and a great use of a formerly ignored space.
So what could be better — apparently the exact opposite.
Three men have put together a proposal to turn a former underground trolley station located in (or should I say under) the Lower East Side into an urban green space by using “remote skylights” which channel sunlight using fiber optic cables. The remote skylights are a more modern version of the design used in the tombs of ancient Egypt.
This proposal still has many hoops to jump through and several million to raise. And at this point is much more a dream than a reality. But don’t forget The High Line was once just thought of as a dream.
I think if/when this is completed it will be the most awe inspiring fusion of design and technology.
